Battlestar Galactica: Razor Flashback Part 3—Operation Raptor Talon

You can relax, we’re home now. As much as Mrs. LoveyWonder is glad to see us after our eight days away from home, we’re even gladder to see here…and so should you as it is Lovey who usually edits and cleans up our copy before posting.

Despite missing our Lovey, we did enjoy our time in Boston and then spending some time in our home town with Mom and Dad FanBoyWonder along with our baby brother Joe, sis-in-law Suzanne and our handsome and charming near-2-year-old nephew Jack (who favors his uncle in that department).

We missed Lovey not being with us and even more so we wished that Brianna The Girl Wonder could be there to play with her baby cousin Jack….but we’re home now with Mrs. Lovey and we’ll both be seeing our baby girl soon (but never soon enough.).

With that said, here’s our take on the latest mini-sode from Battlestar Galactica.

The Upshot from the Sci-Fi Channel: Colonial Vipers and Cylon Raiders face off in a brutal fire-fight above a remote world defended by the Cylons.

Last week, we left young “Billy” Adama/Husker (Nico Cortez) ready to launch into his first combat flight mere moments after he came across his badly-wounded lover Lt. Jaycie McGavin (Allison Warniyca) following her own combat with the Cylons.

Part 3 of this week’s “mini-sode” throws views right into the action as it is battlestars vs. baseships with vipers and raiders flying in the chaos of battle with everyone shooting at everyone else.

While we were more than accustomed to seeing the old Mark 2 Vipers flying about, it was jarring to see the old-style Cylon raiders spitting bullets.

We see Husker, while determined to avenge his comrade and lover, is still struggling to hold his own in his first combat. That is until his first kill and then another in short order. We see Adama’s demeanor change as gains confidence and experience with each “toaster” he kills.

Husker and his Viper squadron attempt in vein to protect the Battlestar Columbia from the unrelenting fire of two Cylon basestars and we watch the battlestar destroyed with all hands.

This destruction has fueled Husker’s blood lust and he eagerly chases after two Cylon Raiders flying into the planet’s atmosphere—despite warnings to veer off by Squad Leader Banzi (Jacob Blair).

Despite the cloud cover, Husker quickly dispatched the first Raider and he is hunting the second when it suddenly comes straight at him, clipping off a piece of the Viper’s wing/tail assembly, leaving Adama spinning uncontrollably toward the deck.

To be continued…..

Forget what we said last week about these mini-sodes being done on a budget. The two minutes we watched this week with the kick-ass space battle had some of the most spectacular special effect that we’ve seen in a while.

There is nothing wrong with acting but these mini-sodes have gone one step beyond the webisodes of last year by injecting some serious action and special effects into the story mix.

When viewed together in its entirety, these 7-chapter mini-sode promises to be a very intense 15-20 minutes of viewing.

Of course we know that young Adama survives and somehow manages to land his bent bird safely but nonetheless we remain in suspense at what he will find on this Cylon-occupied planet.

Look for the remaining six Flashbacks to air Friday nights during Flash Gordon through November 16 on Sci-Fi Channel’s website www.scifi.com/battlestar/razor with FanBoyWonder commentary throughout before the premier of the new BSG movie Battlestar Galactica: Razor on Saturday, November 24. So Say We All!
